Introducing 'Meet the Dance Company,' Our New Film Series

By: VICTORIA BAILEY
Date: Mar 01, 2016

I am delighted to announce a new short film series at TDF Stages – Meet the Dance Company.

A sister series to Meet the Theatre – which provides an in-depth look at some of New York's most vibrant Off and off-Off-Broadway companies – Meet the Dance Company provides the same intimate profile of dance troupes who appear in New York City.

Mark Blankenship, our Associate Director for Online Presence/Journalism and Lauren Kay, a long-time dance reporter for TDF Stages – have curated a rich and diverse first season. It launches today with a short documentary about Sidra Bell Dance New York, and future installments will feature Abraham.In.Motion, Dorrance Dance, and Big Dance Theater. Each of these troupes is different, but they all share a place at the forefront of exciting contemporary dance.

It is our hope that these short documentaries, made possible with the generous support of the Howard Gilman Foundation, will not only entice the dance aficionados among you, but also spark interest among those of you who don't regularly attend dance. I hear the following from theatregoers so often: "I think I would like to attend a dance event, but I don't understand it. I feel stupid, and I don't go." These films should help address that feeling of not understanding. Enjoy and let me know what you think.
