Tanglewood, one of the world's most beloved music festivals and the famed summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra located in the beautiful Berkshire Hills of western Massachusetts, celebrates its 82nd anniversary season, with a spectacular lineup of musical guests and programs that spotlight Tanglewood's rich tradition of presenting summertime concerts at their best since 1937.

2019 Tanglewood Schedule Highlights

The presentation of all 3 acts of Wagner’s “Die Walküre,” July 27th and 28th, is a first for Tanglewood. The opera will be performed in three sittings by the Tanglewood Music Center OrchestraAndris Nelsons conducting. All three acts will be presented as separate concerts. Act I is scheduled for July 27th; Acts II and III the 28th. Soloists include Christine Goerke as Brünnhilde, Simon O’Neill as Siegmund, and James Rutherford as Wotan.

July 20th will see the world premiere of Kevin Puts’s opera: “The Brightness of Light,” based on the correspondence between Alfred Stieglitz and Georgia O’Keeffe. Featured soloists are Baritone Rod Gilfry and 2019’s Koussevitzky Artist, soprano Renée Fleming.

July 23rd will see Tanglewood On Parade. BSO conductors for the program include Andris Nelsons, Keith Lockhart, John Williams, Thomas Wilkins, and James Burton – wow! The 2019 Tanglewood schedule also includes conducting debuts by Antonio Pappano, François-Xavier Roth, Rafael Payere and Yu-An Chang.

2019 Koussevitzky Music Shed stage soloist roster includes pianists Kirill Gerstein, Ingrid Fliter, Paul Lewis, and Jan Lisiecki. Trumpeter Hakan Hardenberger are also on the program, along with soprano Kristine Opolais, bass Ryan Speedo Green, and violinists Anne-Sophie Mutter and Joshua Bell.

Emanuel Ax, Yo-Yo Ma, and Leonidas Kavakos will present Beethoven piano trios together along with a variety of other performances. The 2019 season also includes the Knights with Gil Shaham, classical guitarist Miloš, and The Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra.

2019’s Popular Artists Series schedule already includes James Taylor on July 3rd and 4th, and the Boston Pops Orchestra will present Star Wars: A New Hope, August 18th.

Assisted Listening System

Assistive Listening Devices (portable FM receivers with earphones) are available in both the Koussevitzky Music Shed and Ozawa Hall. ALD's amplify the sound and cut out ambient noise. Please speak with a Tanglewood usher to request an ALD to use during a performance. They are available on a first come first served basis

Directions Driving

Take the Taconic State Parkway to the Berkshire Section of the NY Thruway east to the MA Turnpike Exit 2. Follow to Route 20 west, which merges with Route 7 north. Turn left onto Route 183 south. Tanglewood main entrance is 1.4 miles west of Lenox Center on Route 183 (West Street).

Entrance

Main walkways are paved and there are a limited number of gravel pathways located throughout the Tanglewood campus. If you need assistance navigating these pathways, please ask an usher or gate attendant and a trained staff member will help you.

Parking

Tanglewood has reserve access parking available on campus on a first-come, first-served basis. Patrons who have a current government-issued parking permit or placecard are advised to prominently display the permit and park at the designated disabled parking areas within the Tanglewood grounds. Please alert a parking attendant or traffic officer upon arrival that accessible parking is needed

Restroom

Accessible restrooms are located throughout the Tanglewood grounds.

Seating

Koussevitzky Music Shed - Accessible seats are located throughout the Shed. Companion seats are available for accessible seats.Seiji Ozawa Hall - Accessible seats are located on the main floor of Ozawa Hall. Companion seats are available for accessible seats. There is no elevator in Ozawa Hall, so patrons who have wheelchairs will be seated on the Orchestra floor. Those with difficulty walking up stairs may also request to be seated in the Orchestra level.

Accessible telephones are located throughout the grounds. Please refer to the Tanglewood map for exact locations.

Visual Assistance

Large Print and Braille programs are available for all BSO concerts at Tanglewood. Large print programs are available upon request. For Braille programs please contact the Access Services Department at least a week in advance so that we may get it printed for you.

Wheelchair Info

Tanglewood offers special wheelchair escort assistance for patrons with mobility disabilities. Please ask upon entrance to Tanglewood for assistance and a Tanglewood staff member will assist you. Service is free of charge.
