The Boy Who Listened To Paintings is a new musical based on the memoir of artist/poet Dean Kostos. It is the story of a sensitive boy, a young artist growing up in the 1960s in a highly dysfunctional family; realizing just how different he is, he is driven to the brink as he copes with the curse of, or great gift of, synesthesia (the production of a sense impression relating to one sense by stimulating another sense), his budding gay sexuality, extreme bullying, a flirtation with hard drugs and the other confusing exigencies of life. This memory musical play is told with warmth, understanding, beauty and humor. Perfect for audiences of all ages from precocious 10 year olds to 90 year olds and beyond, especially right for anyone who has ever felt different in any way.
