On a dilapidated, remote farm, Uncle Vanya and his niece Sonya have worked slavishly to sustain an estate in decline. And so it has been for years, until Sonya’s father and his new wife turn this bucolic scene into a hotbed of disillusionment and consuming unrequited love.

In its inaugural production, the Hunter Theater Project presents Anton Chekhov‘s UNCLE VANYA at the Frederick LoeweTheater at Hunter College directed by Richard Nelson with a translation by Richard Nelson, Richard Pevear, and Larissa Volokhonsky.

This production is the first time renowned Russian literature translators Pevear and Volokhonsky will have a work premiere in New York City, following the show’s world premiere at The Old Globe in San Diego, California.
