Even though in-person theatre and dance are back in full swing, in the name of accessibility we're continuing to round up performances to watch online from the comfort of home. Our curated list spotlights the five best options to stream this weekend, Friday, September 6 to Sunday, September 8, for free or at low cost.

The Green Room 42: The Scarlet Letter

Live-streaming Friday, September 6 at 7 p.m. ET for $26

Kenady Sean and Christine Hand Jones are behind this musical adaptation of Nathaniel Hawthorne's enduring novel about Hester Prynne, who has a child out of wedlock in the 1600s and faces the wrath of her Puritan community. Featuring a folk-rock score performed by an all-female band, the show puts a feminist spin on this literary classic about shame, judgment and identity. The Green Room 42: Forest High

Kiwi BFFs Adam Spedding and Bray Jeffrey are behind Forest High, a new pop musical about a high school senior who's spinning out of control thanks to oppressive teachers and a depressed dad. When she learns about a mysterious boarding school in the woods run by students, she knows she needs to transfer. But will this switch solve her problems? Sense and Sensibility

Streaming all weekend for FREE.

During the shutdown, Tony-nominated songwriter Paul Gordon (Jane Eyre, Daddy Long Legs) cofounded Streaming Musicals, which shares recordings of shows at no cost, including many of his regional productions. This mounting of his musical adaptation of Jane Austen's beloved novel Sense and Sensibility was filmed live on stage at Chicago Shakespeare Theater in 2015. Megan McGinnis and Sharon Rietkerk play the Dashwood sisters, who are trying to navigate life and love in late 18th-century England with no father or money but lots of wisdom and wit. Broadway vet Wayne Wilcox and Jagged Little Pill Tony nominee Sean Allan Krill costar.

Pride and Prejudice

Streaming all weekend for FREE.

Another Paul Gordon musical based on a classic Jane Austen novel, Pride and Prejudice was filmed live on stage at California's TheatreWorks Silicon Valley in 2019. Mary Mattison and Justin Mortelliti star as the delightfully mismatched Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy, with the other lovesick Bennet sisters played by Sharon Rietkerk,Melissa WolfKlain, Tara Kostmayer and Chanel Tilghman. The theatre's founding artistic director, Robert Kelley, helms the production.

Philadelphia Fringe Festival

Various shows streaming until Sunday, September 29 at various prices, including FREE.

Since 1997, the Philly Fringe has showcased hundreds of indie performing artists at venues throughout the city. For those who cannot attend in person, the fest is offering 14 performances to watch online, including Strike!, a docudrama chronicling the 1980 firefighters strike in Chicago; Some Other Mirror, one transman's journey of gender acceptance; and the solo comedy Beauty Tips After 40.
