Even though in-person theatre and dance are back in full swing, in the name of accessibility we're continuing to round up performances to watch online from the comfort of home. Our curated list spotlights the five best options to stream this weekend, Friday, November 8 to Sunday, November 10, for free or at low cost.


National Theatre at Home: Nye with Michael Sheen

Streaming from Thursday, November 7 at 2 p.m. ET until Monday, November 11 for FREE.

London's National Theatre presents a FREE stream of Nye, Tim Price's surreal celebration of Nye Bevan, the Labour Party politician who spearheaded the founding of the National Health Service in the UK. Michael Sheen (Frost/Nixon, The Queen, Good Omens) plays the title health care hero, an acclaimed performance that was filmed live on stage earlier this year. Rufus Norris directs. Live from 54 Below: John Lloyd Young’s Broadway

Live-streaming Saturday, November 9 at 7 p.m. ET for $28.50

Jersey Boys Tony winner John Lloyd Young returns to 54 Below to croon a diverse array of musical theatre showstoppers, including show tunes from The Wiz, Chicago, Hair, Les Misérables and, of course, the Four Seasons bio-show that made him famous. PBS Great Performances: Land of Gold

Streaming until Friday, November 29 for FREE.

John Adams and Peter Sellars' Girls of the Golden West was an acclaimed hit for San Francisco Opera in 2017. This 75-minute documentary explores the making of this work about the challenges women faced during the 19th-century gold rush, inspired by the letters of Louise Clappe. Soprano Julia Bullock, mezzo-soprano J’Nai Bridges and others involved in the production shed light on the opera's history and artistry.

Richard Alston Dance Company

Streaming on All Arts for FREE.

In February 2020, renowned British dance-maker Sir Richard Alston launched a farewell tour for his namesake company after 25 years. The troupe's final American performance was filmed live on stage at Montclair State University and features a wide array of works from its rich repertoire, including the seminal 2018 piece Brahms Hungarian.

The Red Shoes

Thrill to Matthew Bourne's Olivier Award-winning stage adaptation of the legendary 1948 movie The Red Shoes, based on the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale of the same name. An eye-popping examination of obsession, possession and the hard choices artists make in their pursuit of perfection, the production stars Ashley Shaw as a rising ballerina torn between Adam Cooper's imperious impresario and Dominic North's intense composer. The dance production was filmed live on stage at Sadler's Wells Theatre in London.
