Broadway favorites Matt Bogart and Julie Benko recently starred in Theatre Raleigh's well-received mounting of the musical Jane Eyre, and for one night you can watch a recording. Based on Charlotte Brontë's darkly romantic novel, the Tony-nominated show was written by John Caird and Paul Gordon, and was reconceived as a more intimate chamber piece for this production. This hour-long program from All Arts has been nominated for an Emmy Award! In addition to being a Tony-winning performer, Phylicia Rashad is the Dean of Howard University's College of Fine Arts. In this special, she directs some of her talented students in excerpts from plays by two undersung Black dramatists: Mary P. Burrill's Aftermath from 1919 and The Deacon's Awakening from 1921 by Willis Richardson. Artists and theatre scholars also discuss the playwrights and put their work in historical context.

PBS Great Performances presents a documentary about director Marianne Elliott's gender-swapped revival of Company, which won the 2022 Tony Award for Best Musical Revival. Filmed over two years, the doc features rehearsal and performance footage from pre- and post-shutdown, plus interviews with Elliott, the late, great Stephen Sondheim, stars Katrina Lenk and Patti LuPone, and members of the musical's original 1970 cast.

Throughout the summer, Bryan Park has been presenting in-person performances by a variety of artists and sharing recordings online. Last week's concert was by rising musical theatre composer Jaime Lozano, dubbed "the next big thing" by Lin-Manuel Miranda himself. A cabaret favorite who frequently performs at Joe's Pub, the Latine singer-songwriter explores life as an immigrant in America alongside his talented onstage familia. The music starts about 11 minutes in.
