TDF's Play Selection Committee reviews and approves subsidy support for new Broadway productions. At this time, TDF has a limited amount of subsidy available. Productions that are interested should contact Julian Christenberry, Director of Ticket Programs at julianc@tdf.org.
TDF will only consider subsidizing productions with a firm booking of at least two months in a proper Broadway theatre.
Once chosen, TDF agrees to subsidize 300 to 3,000 tickets during the first eight weeks of the show's run and offer them to TDF's membership of more than 90,000 enthusiastic theatregoers.
For Broadway shows, TDF pays $54 per ticket for plays and $62 for musicals, and offers them to TDF members for $49 and $57, respectively. (These prices do not include facility fees.) TDF adds $5 to each ticket sold, which equals a $10 subsidy per ticket.
In return for this support, productions are asked to acknowledge the TDF subsidy on the title page of their program. They must also repay 5% of any profit after recoupment until the full amount of the subsidy is repaid.
Producers or managers (sorry, no playwrights or agents) may apply to TDF at least eight weeks before the first performance date.
To be considered, please submit the following:
1. A cover letter including the producing entity (LLC, LP, etc.) and producers' names
2. A PDF of the script to send to committee members electronically
3. For musicals, please include a link to music selections
This material is reviewed by consultants and members of the TDF Board of Trustees, who then make a recommendation to the full board. Material should be sent to Julian Christenberry, Director of TDF Ticket Programs at julianc@tdf.org.
Similar to the Theatre Subsidy program, TDF awards a subsidy to select dance productions of artistic merit. TDF offers a limited amount of support of $10 per ticket to smaller companies that have been approved by the TDF Dance Selection Committee for seasons in New York City.
