WATCH: Shamel Pitts at Gibney Dance Center

By: LAUREN PHOENIX KAY
Date: May 22, 2018

Attention modern dance lovers: Brooklyn-bred dancer, choreographer and teacher, Shamel Pitts, is bringing his multimedia piece Black Box: Little Black Book of Red to Gibney Dance Center May 31 to June 2. It's a raw and personal work about the search for identity that incorporates spoken word, video and evocative lighting. We chatted with Pitts about his creative process and he even broke down a few of his singular moves.

This video is the final installment in our exclusive, behind-the-scene series about downtown dance hub Gibney. We've enjoyed giving you an insider's look at this venerable performing arts organization -- it's a view most audiences never get to see. As of this writing, TDF members can snag discounted seats to Pitts' performance, so after you click play on the video, click here to purchase tickets.
