The TDF's Costume Collection, which has been in business since the late 1960s, rents low-cost professional costumes to schools, colleges and nonprofit theaters nationwide. Until yesterday, it boasted some 85,000 pieces donated by organizations as diverse as the Metropolitan Opera ("Carmen" and the Cecil Beaton-designed production of "Turandot"); Disney Corp. ("Beauty and the Beast" and "Aida"); The National Actors Theatre (duds worn by Al Pacino and John Goodman); the Juilliard School ("Dance of the Vampires"); CBS ("The Guiding Light"), as well as by individuals with a flair for the sartorially dramatic.
