Developed in response to the need for curriculum-based arts programming, TDF's Residency Arts Project introduces the craft of playwriting to young people who have little or no prior exposure to theatre. The project consists of a series of workshops led by a teaching artist, using professional productions as models for student work. The teaching artist and classroom teacher collaborate to develop a sequence of workshops that best serve their students.

The program aligns with a number of the theatre benchmarks from the New York City Department of Education's Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts.

The RAP Summer Intensive Scholarship

Open to graduates from the TDF RAP school year programs, this summer playwriting intensive takes place in July. Scholarship receipients build on the skills learned in their school's RAP program by becoming part of an ensemble of selected playwrights from the five buroughs. The students work in an intimate workshop setting with professional playwrights to each develop an original piece that is presented in an Off Broadway venue by professional actors at the end of the intensive. Students also see Broadway and Off Broadway productions to use as inspirational models.
